A native of Recklinghausen, Germany, Yuka Maehrle (née Kamo) received her first bassoon lessons at the tender age of 13 with Jens-Hinrich Thomsen in Duisburg. Two years later, she was accepted into the pre-college program at the Mannheim School of Music, studying with Prof. Ole Kristian Dahl. Completing Abitur in 2006, she began her studies in the prestigious bassoon studio of Prof. Georg Klütsch in Cologne, where her studies were complemented with concerto performances, (amongst others with the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen ), and masterclasses with renowned artists like Prof. Klaus Thunemann und Prof. Sergio Azzolini.
Ms. Maehrle completed her Artist Diploma in 2017 with Highest Honors, having won numerous awards and competitions, including multiple titles at the national level of the german competition Jugend Musiziert, a scholarship from Stiftung deutscher Musikleben, first prize with special honors from the jury in th competition of the Union Grand-Duc Adolphe , Concours Européen in Luxemburg, as well as the Förderpreis des Deutschen Hochschulwettbewerbes prize.
After many years as the principal bassoonist with the German National Youth Orchestra and member of the Jungen Deutschen Philharmonie , she accepted her first contract in 2009 with the Staatstheater Darmstadt , playing principal bassoon for one season. The following year brought a position in the Academy of the Radio Orchestra SWR Sinfonieorchester in Freiburg. Yuka Maehrle is currently Principal Bassoon with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie in Herford, Germany, where she has been playing since 2011 and has been a member of the ARUNDOSquintett since 2018.
